MMOS v0.8.1: The Feedback Patch

The Feedback Patch: bridges, NPC patrols, a slimmer tutorial, an honest forum, class balance numbers and a long list of fixes from your reports.

0.8.1 is built from beta feedback. Almost every line below started as a report: a tutorial that did too much for you, quests that were never taken or never finished, flag carriers that stood still, forum threads that lied, an adventurer window that hid the guild and the bank, and editor rough edges. Every save from every earlier build still loads.

A slimmer tutorial

You research each top-bar feature yourself, guided research completes in one day, and new guided steps cover Recognition, Dungeons, PvP and Guilds. Starter adventurers own their gear, and the tutorial world now has terraces, a snow massif, a mesa and a river crossed by stone, rope and wood bridges.

Bridges

A new Bridge tile spans water, lava or a gap at any height, in wood, stone or rope. The tint brush recolours the whole span, and mobs no longer freeze when a bridge covers their camp.

NPC patrol paths

Give an NPC stops, a walk speed, a wait at each stop and a loop or back-and-forth route. Patrols respect elevation and bridges, adventurers chase a walking quest giver, and the NPC pauses to talk when a customer is close.

Nobody stays behind in a dungeon

Groups fight in walking order instead of skipping trash to rush a boss they cannot reach. Members who never entered or wandered off are released, and a member stuck for 30 seconds outside combat rejoins the group.

Crafters craft

A refused crafter falls back to the least crowded recipe it can afford, maxed gatherers stop chasing Mastery, and nobody hoards a material nobody buys. One tester's world went from 81 to 133 crafts a day.

Capture the Flag that plays like it

Runners reach the stands, defenders engage, chasers hunt the thief and a double-carry standoff resolves. King of the Hill and Area Control holders fight back and hold near their point, and adventurers can hold up to three PvE and PvP queues at once.

Class and race balance table

Subscribers, online, average level, average fun, PvE deaths per 100 subscribers, PvP kill/death and lapsed share, per class and per race, with the same numbers on the class editor and a Guide article on what a lopsided column means.

An honest forum

Threads carry their real cause, "too crowded" needs three witnesses from the camp's own level band and faction, and match kills post under their map. A Thoughts map view puts a chip over every bored or starved adventurer.

Also in v0.8.1

  • Island quests work across docks and flight paths, with the fare priced from pocket plus bank. Quests nobody can finish are refused and dropped, and abandoned quests take their quest items with them.
  • Adventurers fight back when hit while moving, and tanks and damage dealers heal themselves with a heal they own.
  • Racial abilities: up to two active abilities every adventurer of a race knows. Classes get their own attack range.
  • Flight points serve the faction that owns their zone, checked at both ends of the flight.
  • Raise and Lower in the dungeon and PvP map editors, decoration scale from 0.25x to 5x, per-settlement roof colours and terrain tint on peaks, boulders and dungeon walls.
  • Dock routes on the map, sea lanes that follow the route boats actually sail, and dashed flight links between roosts.
  • The Adventurer window shows guild, rank and loyalty, a Bank block, and professions against the cap. Death rows in Adventurer History name the killer.
  • A Welcome back event, spectator alerts for Realm First attempts and ranked matches, reachable 4 and 5 star ratings and a PvP XP Rate dial.
  • Content Pack imports link identical content instead of duplicating it, with Export all content and limits raised to 5,000 definitions.
  • Gear sets browse like items, duplicates keep everything, and the Achievements editor gains duplicate and a Kill a specific mob requirement.
  • New Guide articles on combat stats, Loyalty, banking, the profession cap, flight points, factions and class resources.
  • Your Steam friends can see which day of which MMO you are running.

Fixes & Improvements

  • Fifteen simulation hot paths reworked: a 1,000-player world's worst sim frame dropped from about 7.5 ms to 5.9 ms with identical world outcomes.
  • Recycled mobs no longer render invisible, and removed docks clean up their boats and passengers.
  • Adventurers whose role their class no longer offers are re-rolled when you edit the class and when a save loads.
  • The Item Editor scrolls sideways instead of clipping at large interface sizes, and the game window fits the display on first launch.
  • Guided rings stay on screen at every interface size.
  • Test-match kills no longer post to the forum, and Space after clicking Spectate pauses instead of reopening it.
